I started writing when I was eleven years old. It was a means of escapism—my family had moved away for just one year, which left me missing my old friends while knowing that I wouldn’t see any of my new friends again. It was at that point that I started creating my own worlds filled with my own, fictional friends.
Some years later, I started my first attempt at novel writing and failed miserably. I kept returning to that piece, writing and rewriting, and still never finishing it. I lost interest and figured that I was never meant to actually write a book…
Fifteen years after I first started to create, I finally decided to give NaNoWriMo a shot. I thought I would return to my other piece, but after repeatedly seeing ‘write what you know,’ I decided to try something new! This time, I would write about something I had experience in—Ghost Hunting!! I dished that sucker out in my thirty day timeline… And then it sat.
For three years.
My wonderful husband eventually said to me, “so, are you going to ever finish that, or what?” At that point, it seemed more of a challenge than an offhanded comment. So, within two months, I had my final draft finished, a cover designed, and casual editors lined up.
I am pleased to announce that my first novel, Echoes and Ashes, will be released on February 24th, 2020 and I can proudly say I was published by age thirty!*
So, don’t give up! Write what you love and by all means, if that means writing fanfiction for 15 years before you start to find your voice and style, go for it!
*Age is just a number. Whether you’re 16 or 106, you do you!
Hello! I am Alexandra! Thanks for checking out my page!
It goes without saying that I enjoy writing, or neither of us would be here, now would we? In my spare time, I enjoy designing and sewing costumes (usually of the ball gown variety), candle making and other crafting, traveling the world, and, of course, ghost hunting!
I am generally all over the place with my interests! It’s both a blessing and a curse… I’m never bored, but my little house sure doesn’t handle the mess well!
When I’m in between projects, I enjoy playing video games and playing dungeons and dragons! I am a super nerd and proud of it!
Another significant part of my life is Flamma Mysteries!
In my spare time, I run a little event company! Running Flamma Mysteries has helped me figure out my writing style quite a bit. My team and I specialize in running murder mystery parties and Blockbuster LARP events. This has given me a great deal of practice in mystery writing: laying the foundation for a story and making sure clues line up, with an inevitable twist, of course!
I absolutely love writing for these events, and I run my small scale events throughout the year. My larger events, the Blockbuster LARPS, are restricted to one every one-two years due to the time and energy required. We ran Maelstrom Mansion: a Lovecraft LARP in 2018 with great success! So many kind words said that will stay with me forever!
Our next events are Stormwrecked: a Pirate LARP in 2020 (stormwrecked.com) and Maelstrom Masquerade: a Lovecraft LARP (maelstrommasquerade.com ) in 2021.
Check them out if immersive games are your thing!
